Chidimma Adetshina, the embattled Miss South Africa contestant, has revealed that she is in no rush to return to South Africa following significant criticism she faced during the pageant announcement.
It is worth recalling that Adetshina withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant due to allegations of fraud and identity theft involving her mother, which were raised by the South African Home Office.
Upon her withdrawal, Adetshina received an invitation to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which she accepted.
Since arriving in Nigeria over a week ago, she has expressed her enjoyment of her time in the country and her reluctance to return to South Africa.
In an interview with Cool FM Nigeria, Adetshina shared that she has faced substantial backlash from internet users regarding her nationality and her participation in the Miss Universe Nigeria competition.
Despite this, she has embraced her experience and expressed a desire to remain in Nigeria longer. Reflecting on her challenges, she said, “It’s been amazing. I’m not even looking forward to going back to South Africa.
“I want to explore more. I want to stay longer and see what happens next. There were times when I’d literally cry myself to sleep and just wonder, ‘Why me?’
“I wanted to end it. But then sometimes, when difficult moments like this happen, you always need to look at the positive side of things as well. I had to change my mindset and see that maybe out of all of this, greatness is coming.”
Since joining the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, Adetshina has garnered substantial support, receiving 13,000 votes from internet users across Africa.
In a statement to DispatchLIVE, she emphasised her commitment to making a positive impact, stating, “I will make a powerful impact.
“Many people are just as diverse as I am, and I don’t want us to live in a society or community where we are excluded because of our diverse backgrounds.
“I want us to be included, celebrated, appreciated, loved, and accepted.”
