United States President Donald Trump, in his inauguration speech on Monday, declared that his administration’s official policy would only recognise two genders—male and female.
During the address marking the beginning of his tenure as the 47th president of the United States, Trump said, “I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life… As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
In the same speech, Trump pledged significant changes to US trade policies, vowing to implement tariffs and taxes on foreign countries to prioritise American workers.

“I will immediately begin the overhaul of our trade system to protect American workers and families,” he said. “Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens.”
Trump’s statements on gender follow his earlier commitment to ending what he termed as “transgender lunacy.”
Tribune Online reports that, while addressing young conservatives during an event in Phoenix, Arizona, in December 2024, Trump outlined plans to roll back LGBTQ rights and enforce strict policies.
“I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools,” Trump told attendees.
He further vowed to “keep men out of women’s sports,” reiterating that recognising only two genders would be the “official policy of the United States government.”
