The new Arugba Osun-Osogbo, simply identified as Osunbunmi, is currently out and leading procession of Osun devotees, traditional worshippers, tourists among others to the Osun Osogbo sacred grove.
The young virgin, who is the soul of the Osun-Osogbo festival, would be guided by the Olose while carrying the sacred Calabar — containing yearly offerings to the River goddess.
However, our correspondent learnt that the nine-year-old Arugba was being assisted by Baba Osun in carrying the calabash through the crowd.
Tribune Online report earlier that Osun devotees, including ‘Iya Osun’, are in high spirits earlier as the grand finale of the yearly festival to offer sacrifice to the Yoruba deity begins in Osogbo, state capital.

The highly spirited devotees, dressed in white attires with different costumes and hairdos paying homage to the river goddess, walked behind the procession of Arugba to the Osun-Osogbo sacred grove.
The Osun-Osogbo festival is a centuries old festivity regarded as a vibrant center of Yoruba spirituality and creative expression.
The festival origins are tied to a historical event where the goddess is said to have appeared to the founders of Osogbo, promising them protection and prosperity in exchange for an annual sacrifice.
