Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has tendered a public apology to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over past remarks he made against the monarch.
Igboho made the apology on Saturday during a visit to the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
He acknowledged that while he had previously spoken against the monarch in his absence, it was wrong to do so and that he had come in person to seek forgiveness.
He said, “You can abuse a king behind his back, but you dare not do that in his presence.
“I have abused you before, which I had already apologized for behind your back, because it was behind your back I abused you.
“Now I’m in front of the deity (Ooni) myself to apologize.”

The activist had a few years ago accused the Ooni of failing to tell late former President Muhammadu Buhari the truth about the plight of the Yoruba people during a meeting in Abuja.
His criticism of the monarch, alongside attacks on other Yoruba leaders, sparked outrage at the time.
In a virtual town hall with the Yoruba diaspora in 2021, Igboho had described the Ooni, President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, and other Yoruba politicians as subservient to the Fulani.
He had also alleged that Yoruba leaders were only interested in visiting Abuja to collect money, vowing that their properties would be attacked and destroyed.
“Our leaders are lazy and slaves to Fulanis. They visit Abuja to collect money; we will attack them and destroy their property. Ooni should be dealt with. I am annoyed. Why should we be afraid of the crown they (Yoruba monarchs) wear? Tinubu and other Yoruba politicians are Fulani slaves,” Igboho had said.
