Devotees of the Osun-Osogbo River, including ‘Iya Osun’, are in high spirits on Friday as the grand finale of the yearly festival to offer sacrifice to the Yoruba deity begins in Osogbo, state capital.
Tribune Online correspondents at the ongoing festival saw a large number of Osun devotees among other traditional worshippers dancing in front of Arugba’s house.
The highly spirited devotees, dressed in white attires with different costumes and hairdos paying homage to the River goddess, are awaiting the procession of Arugba to the Osun-Osogbo sacred groove.

The Osun-Osogbo festival is a centuries old festivity regarded as a vibrant center of Yoruba spirituality and creative expression.
The festival origins are tied to a historical event where the goddess is said to have appeared to the founders of Osogbo, promising them protection and prosperity in exchange for an annual sacrifice.
