Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has promised to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday during a campaign in Esan Central for the forthcoming Edo Central by-election, Okpebholo said Nigeria’s slow development compared to the United States of America (USA) was due to the absence of a leader like Tinubu in past administrations.

According to him, Tinubu’s leadership has addressed the nation’s economic challenges, pointing to the recently assented tax reform bills as evidence of progress.

“I, your son, have promised Mr. President 2.5 million votes. 2.5 million votes, I promised that by the grace of God, come to 2027, we’re going to deliver that vote to Mr. President.”

Okpebholo, who sought the audience’s backing to his vow, continued, saying, “The president we have today, if Nigeria had had two of such presidents, Nigeria would’ve been like America,” he said.

“He has been able to stabilize our economy through tax reform,” he added.

Okpebholo, who was the Senator representing Edo Central prior to his inauguration as Edo governor in November last year, resigned from the National Assembly and continues to rally support for the APC ahead of upcoming elections.
