The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has dismissed allegations that he smokes marijuana, describing them as false and invoking curses on those behind the claims.
In a viral video on social media, while speaking at a public gathering, the monarch said the accusations were fabricated by individuals he considered unfortunate, stressing that divine punishment awaited those who spread such rumours.
He declared that if he were indeed guilty of smoking marijuana, God should remove him from the throne, but insisted that the allegations were baseless.
He said, “They are lying against me. They are unfortunate people. Unless I am smoking marijuana, if I’m a smoker, God should remove me from this throne. You who are accusing me of being a smoker, God will punish you.”
This is coming a few days after the Court of Appeal upheld his enthronement as the Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, a development the monarch had earlier celebrated as a divine victory.

Following the ruling, Oba Akanbi expressed joy, declaring that his reign was ordained by God and could not be undermined by human efforts.
He had also emphasised his commitment to defending Iwo’s cultural heritage while modernising traditions, noting that his reign had attracted federal presence to the town and reshaped its public image.
The monarch described his challengers in court as wasteful and maintained that their litigations only served to strengthen his position on the throne.
