Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has dismissed claims that the president is “Yorubanising” Nigeria, stating that such claims are baseless and not backed by facts.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Bwala described remarks by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, as inaccurate and driven by personal sentiments.
“Some of the things that my uncle is saying about the president are not a reflection of reality,” Bwala said. “While I tried to avoid interrogating the choice of words used, which I believe are not friendly and would not be good for children or for people who, in fact, value relationships, because if you have a relationship, even when you fall out, there are what we call the rules of engagement.”

Bwala emphasised that President Tinubu has never spoken ill of Lawal despite their political differences.
“The president was never caught at any time saying anything about Babachir. Even when Babachir left the president, when you would have thought he would have been the one to react, he never said anything,” he stated.
He urged the former SGF to draw a line between personal grievances and matters of national interest.
“So, what Uncle Babachir is saying, I believe, if he is being honest with Nigerians, is that he should be able to separate his personal interest from his national interest,” Bwala further said.
“All of the retorts, all of the expressions he has given, are a reflection of his personal opinion about his self-interest in relation to his relationship with Asiwaju.”
On the allegation of “Yorubalisation,” Bwala said such claims had been previously debunked.
“But in terms of whether there is a Yorubalisation of the country, I believe this conversation came up some time back when we ruled out the fact, saying that stats and data do not support what he said, because the Nigerian nation is covered.
“There are a good number of Northerners, where I come from, in this government who are doing creditably well, and he talked about Northern Nigeria being disenfranchised, not forgetting the fact that we just had eight years of a Northern Nigerian ruler.”
