Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, has sparked widespread debate online after making bold claims about infidelity and polygamy in Nigerian society.
Akintola, in a podcast conversation with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, argued that cheating is not a recent phenomenon but a cultural pattern passed down through generations.
She insisted that up to 99% of men cheat by default, stressing that the habit is deeply tied to traditional practices of polygamy and upbringing.
“The majority of our men cheat. Your father cheated, sir. Sorry, I’m sorry. Your grandfather did. Polygamy, polygamy. Yes, my father has two wives,” she said, noting that many men grew up seeing infidelity normalised within their families.
She continued, “I don’t know where this idea of fidelity came from in Africa. The reality is 90% of our men cheat, it’s ingrained in them. Some even grew up following their fathers to see girlfriends.”
Akintola maintained that women should be realistic about their expectations in relationships rather than hoping for flawless fidelity.
“You leave one man because he cheated, you go to another, the same problem. Jay Z cheated on Beyoncé. Did she leave? No. So please, let’s talk about the reality we are facing.”

Pushing her point further, the actress declared, “Let’s talk about the reality of what we are facing, which is that 99.9% of the men you will meet in Nigeria will cheat.”
This comes a few weeks after the actress opened up about her personal life, revealing that she is childless and currently single at the age of 52.
Tribune Online reports that in an interview with Pulse Nigeria, the award-winning actress was asked if she had children and responded, “No, I don’t unfortunately.”
