United States President Donald Trump will make an announcement this afternoon, his first public comments in a week, about the Department of Defense, according to the White House.
The development comes as lawmakers return to Capitol Hill facing heated battles over government funding, the Jeffrey Epstein files, and Trump’s policing agenda.
Trump’s announcement is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET Tuesday.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told CNN, “The president will be making an exciting announcement related to the Department of Defense.”

The last time Trump spoke publicly was last Tuesday, during a three-hour Cabinet meeting. Since then, he has remained out of the public eye, though he has been active on Truth Social and spent the holiday weekend golfing at his Virginia club.
Today’s event will be the first opportunity in a week for reporters to question the president directly.
This comes a few days after ‘Trump is dead’ trended on X, with many questioning the whereabouts of one of the world’s most powerful leaders.
