US: Trump appoints ‘hush-money’ defense attorney, Alina Habba as counselor

Published by

US President-elect, Donald Trump has announced that Alina Habba, one of his defense attorneys in the New York hush-money case, will serve as counselor to the President.

Habba, 40, previously defended Trump earlier this year and also acted as his legal spokesperson. Since the election, she has spent considerable time with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, his social media platform, “She has been unwavering in her loyalty and unmatched in her resolve – standing with me through numerous ‘trials,’ battles, and countless days in court. Few understand the weaponization of the ‘injustice’ system better than Alina.”

Habba, who has Chaldean ancestry, is part of Iraq’s largest Christian denomination, which is one of the Eastern rites of the Catholic Church.

During Trump’s campaign, she frequently joined him on the trail and was a featured speaker at a late October rally held at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Trump also announced on Sunday that Michael Anton, a former staffer, will return to serve as director of policy planning at the State Department.

Anton previously held the role of national security council spokesperson from 2017 to 2018.

Additionally, Trump revealed that Michael Needham, who formerly served as chief of staff for Senator Marco Rubio, will be appointed as counselor of the State Department.

The Florida senator has been tapped by Trump to become the next secretary of state.
