US Consulate partners Igbinedion varsity to launch Benin City Window on America

For residents of the Edo State capital of Benin, who are eager to learn about American government, history, culture and educational system, the United States Consulate in Lagos has launched a centre that will provide information for free.

Known as the Benin City Window on America (BCWoA), the centre which partnered with the Igbinedion University (IUO), Okada, Edo State, has offered a space where visitors can learn about the US.

The public affairs officer of the consulate, Mr Stephen Ibelli, explained in Benin at the launching that the Window on America which was formerly referred to as the United States Information Service office served as a platform for the US worldwide in accordance with a mantra to engage, educate and empower.

Sounding optimistic, Ibelli said that the window would expose visitors to abundant opportunities in the US in the area of education, research, financing and searching for the best universities to study.

While commending IUO for the partnership, the envoy said that the country had more than 4,000 universities.

The vice chancellor of IUO, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, noted that the partnership represented a strategic collaboration aimed at bolstering cultural integration, education, skill acquisition and youth empowerment, among other for the benefit of Edo State people and Nigeria in general to connect with the United States.

Represented by former Edo State Governor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, the chancellor of the university, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion said he was delighted that the university was chosen as the 13th partner for the window on America initiative in the southern part of Nigeria.
