[UPDATE]: #OkadaBan: Protest turns violent in Ijora as police allegedly shoot student, others

Four persons sustained gunshot injuries as men of the Lagos State Police Command attempted to dispersed protesting Okada and tricycle riders who barricaded Ijora- 7up road over the recent Lagos State government’s ban on tricycles and motorcycles operations in the state.

TribuneOnline gathered that the protesters who set a bonfire at the middle of the road in Ijora area went violent following sporadic shootings by policemen.

In the process, the police bullets allegedly hit an apprentice vulcaniser identified as AbdulSallam, a secondary school student, an aged man said to be working with a commercial inter-state transport company in Ijora and two yet to be identified persons leaving them in a critical condition.

The student, according to an eye witness wore a blue shirt and trouser school uniform said to belong to a school in Apapa.

With the protest, roads connecting Ijora to the Lagos Island and Apapa road were totally blocked leaving thousands of Lagosians stranded at various bus stations while others scampered for safety to escape being hit by police bullets.

The other two victims are yet to be identified as of the time of filing in this report.
