The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik), Awka, Anambra State, has instructed its members to avoid any meetings organised by Prof. Bernard Odoh.
This directive follows reports that the Federal Ministry of Education nullified Odoh’s appointment as Vice Chancellor, deeming it illegitimate.
According to Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji, ASUU-Unizik branch chairman, attending such meetings could inadvertently lend legitimacy to Odoh’s claims and compromise the institution’s governance. ASUU views Odoh’s actions as subversive, cautioning members against involvement in his activities.
The union highlighted that Odoh’s appointment violates a court order and has been officially annulled by the Federal Ministry of Education. ASUU urged its members to be cautious and to disregard any calls or invitations related to Odoh’s engagements.
“We expect Prof. Odoh to respect legitimate authorities and avoid creating disorder within the university,” ASUU’s statement read, warning that “members who attend his meetings will face consequences. We appreciate your cooperation in upholding academic integrity and excellence.”
ASUU concluded by reaffirming its dedication to safeguarding the interests of its members and maintaining the institution’s integrity.
