The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reiterated its commitment to providing technical support to communities in Bauchi State to sustain its various interventions aimed at improving the health of women and children.
This reaffirmation was made by UNICEF Deputy Country Representative for Programmes, Dr. Rownak Khan, while speaking to journalists in Dandore Community, Toro LGA, Bauchi State.
Dr. Rownak Khan expressed satisfaction with the community’s setup, describing it as a model that should be emulated across the country.
She stated, “I am very pleased to visit Dandore Community. The community has strong leadership, and from what I have observed, the leaders genuinely care for their members.”
According to her, “I have seen many women looking healthy and well-nourished. Nursing mothers appear well-fed, and I have observed that they are ensuring their children receive immunizations. The community also has proper toilet facilities in their homes.”
“They are also engaging in kitchen gardening and preparing nutritious meals for their children using locally sourced ingredients. I believe this is an excellent example of how communities should function,” she added.

Dr. Rownak Khan emphasized, “They are becoming self-sufficient, which not only improves their nutritional status and the well-being of children under five but also enhances overall health conditions. I hope other communities in Nigeria can follow Dandore’s example.”
The Deputy Country Representative for Programmes pointed out that UNICEF will continue to provide support at various levels to ensure that women and children have access to quality healthcare services and education.
According to her, “UNICEF has been working with numerous communities in Bauchi State for a long time. Moving forward, our support will primarily be technical, as we have already provided financial assistance.”
She stressed, “Now, it is crucial for the communities and the government to take ownership of how they support their people. That is why we are here—to provide guidance, but mainly technical support.”
