UNICEF, Niger govt sensitise Corps members on Nigeria Learning Passport

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in collaboration with the Niger State Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, has sensitized corps members on the use of the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) platform.

Malam Farouk Suleiman Mashegu, the UNICEF Focal Person in the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, highlighted this initiative during a sensitization session for corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Paiko, Paikoro LGA, on Saturday.

He explained that the purpose of the sensitization exercise was to introduce corps members to the NLP platform, ensuring they become familiar with its contents, especially those who would be posted to schools.

“Our goal is to familiarize them with the NLP before they are deployed to schools so that, by the time they get there, they will already be well-versed with the platform,” Mashegu said.

He further explained that the platform serves as a guide for teaching students both online and offline, ensuring that pupils do not miss out on learning.

“We believe that by integrating the NYSC network, we will significantly increase the number of users on the platform moving forward,” he added.

Mashegu disclosed that UNICEF, in collaboration with the ministry, is currently training 2,500 teachers, and 3,150 head teachers have already been trained on utilizing the NLP platform.

He also noted that approximately 15,620 users are currently utilizing the NLP in Niger State. The platform facilitates learning for students both online and offline, allowing them to take lessons from home, not just within the classroom.

The Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with UNICEF, launched the NLP as an online and offline learning platform to provide continuous access to quality education for learners.
