THE Anambra State government, in collaboration with UNICEF, has set to flag off its maternal and child health week campaign, which is to commence on 17th July 2018 at PHC Nri, in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
Disclosing that it is targeting three million women and children in the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week, MNCHW, for immunisation.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike, in a press briefing to flagged off the programme, also stated that the occasion was aimed at promoting the health of pregnant women and children, to reduced neonatal, maternal and child morbidity and mortality.
Also to supplement Vitamin A to children 6-59 months and to give health education on key household practices (KHHPs) which include, exclusive breastfeeding, hand washing.
The commissioner who reveal that the state government has renovated about 63 Primary Health Centres, one per ward across the three senatorial districts of the state and equipped and supplied them with Keke Ambulance, told the newsmen that about 1200 health personnel will partake in the one-week exercise that will cover the 362wards in Anambra State.
According to him, the bi-annual event will enable the state to deliver high impact interventions through the existing or expanded outreach services for mother, newborn and children’s survival.
He implored people in the state to give maximum support to the personnel for the good of all.
