UK warns Putin as Russian submarine sighted around British waters

The United Kingdom’s war secretary, John Healey, has warned President Vladimir Putin, claiming that a Russian submarine is patrolling around British waters.

He said this during his remarks at Downing Street, UK, where he explained that the Russian submarines were under monitoring 24/7 by warships and aircraft and “have now left UK waters and headed back to north.”

Reuters reports that the UK and its allies had spent more than a month tracking a Russian Akula attack submarine and two GUGU spy submarines in the North Atlantic before they retreated.

Healey says the Akula submarine was “likely decoy to distract” from the two GUGI submarines as they spent time over “critical infrastructure relevant to us and our allies.”

He further stated that “no evidence that there has been any damage” to UK cables and pipelines.

Addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin, Healey issued a warning, noting that their parading operations would attract consequences.

“We see your activity over our cables and our pipelines, and you should know that any attempt to damage them will not be tolerated and will have serious consequences.”

He mentioned their confidence over Moscow, threatening to track and monitor future activity and “to continue exposing any covert operations that Putin wants to mount that may threaten our vital interests.”
