UK pledges support for Imo govt on agricultural development

IN a bid to upgrade the economic status of Imo State, the United Kingdom has pledged its support to the Imo State government, to grow its agricultural sub-sector and also assist in the area of infrastructure.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, in a dialogue with civil society organisations and media people in Owerri, said the vibrance of Imo State had caught the attention of the UK and the British government would like to collaborate with the state to realize its potential.

Highlighting the need to explore measures to improve the agriculture sector, Laing said agriculture is an important aspect of the economy and it is also a crucial sector to the UK.

Laing said, “Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy and we will see what we can do to support this state. We are here to get a better understanding of the state; the challenges and opportunities.

“It is a very important part of this country. I want to understand where the opportunities, problems are and what the UK government can do to address these opportunities.”
