The Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, through its Centre of Entrepreneurship Development, has commenced bread production for students, staff and residents of the Sokoto metropolis.
The bread, which is named ‘CEDUDUS’, was first unveiled July 12, through the official page of the center, with students lauding the management for breaking entrepreneurship barriers by joining academic institutions like University of Ilorin, Lagos State University, among others who are also into bread production.
According to Professor Maryam Koko, the director of the center, the motive behind the bread production was to “enable students to learn the rudiments of enterprise startup and management”.Â
Aside from generating revenue to sustain the centre and the university, starting bread production was said to be a way to avail students a practical training ground for entrepreneurship development.
“The center for entrepreneurship development is a place to learn entrepreneurial skills and the enterprise hubs such as photography, bakery, makeup etc. In order to achieve this aim, there is a need to put the hubs into business for sustainability of the center. We’re trying to ensure each of the hubs serve as a training ground as well as an enterprise to generate revenue that will make the center sustainable,” she added.
Continuing, Koko, who is a lecturer from the Department of Business Administration, noted that the university’s bread is affordable compared to the quality, promising to keep to standard as the establishment also serves as means of empowerment.
“I feel it has always been my dream to be an achiever. I always want to leave my footprint and legacy wherever I find myself. I’m happy one of my dreams for the center became a reality during my tenure,” she concluded.
Reacting, the President of the Entrepreneurship Club, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Abdullah Umar, lauded the development, adding that bread will be made available within and outside the school.
“Location as of now is the Centre and mini market. Distributors are also welcome,” he stated.
“Sales have started at the center and also in school minimarts and it’s opened to all dealers that would be interested in its distribution at a discounted price.”
“The center will also be organizing a promo sale soon,” Abdullah added.
