The suspects, 27-year-old Collins Akpinoba and his accomplice David Paulson, aged 38, were apprehended by sympathisers and promptly handed over to the police after stealing a handset belonging to a passenger named Ezeugwu Akanso.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the victim had on the fateful day at about 7 pm boarded a commercial tricycle with Reg no. He was said to have raised an alarm which necessitated sympathizers to join him and chase the suspects who took to their heels.

Edafe said preliminary investigation revealed that both suspects specialized in robbing unsuspecting passengers and some of their victims have identified them.

In another development, an Anti-Crime patrol team from Agbor division while on stop and search at about 8 pm intercepted one John Chikwuji, 25-year-old, a native of Ekuku-Agbor going from Agbor to Ekuku-Agbor community.

The statement said when the suspect was subjected to a search, one Beretta pistol was recovered from him even as the state Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi warned all criminals to refrain from illegal activities.

He further assured that the command was making every effort to address the severe social challenges and detrimental impacts of violent crimes.
