Two students of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo state, Miss Temitope Ayedun and Olakunle Olayinka have been confirmed dead within the last few days.
While Ayedun, a 200 level student of Department of Educational Management was said to have been sick after allegedly contacted Lassa fever before she lost her life, Olayinka was allegedly shot dead by some unidentified gunmen.
Some of the students of the school disclosed that Olayinka was killed during a shoot out between rival cult group on Friday evening.
However, following the death of the two students, the authorities of the school has approved a two-week mid-semester break for all students of the institution with immediate effect.
In a statement issued and signed by the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, said the break became necessary to enable students refresh and prepare ahead for the examination.
The school in the statement condoled with the families of the deceased and said, “The university management received, with rude shock, the loss of two of our students to death in the course of the week.

“On admission of Miss Temitope Ayedun, a 200 Level of the Department of Educational Management, at the University Health Centre, the Medical Personnel tried their best to manage her until she was referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo where she was intensively managed before she died on Thursday, 5th March 2020.
“Similarly, the news of the death of Mr Olakunle Olayinka, a 300-Level student of the Department of Biochemistry, following wounds from a gunshot by unidentified gunmen, was received on Friday, 6th March 2020.
“After the Medical personnel at the University Health Centre put up spirited efforts to stabilise him. The Security agents are still on the trail of the assailants for apprehension.
“The university management, under the leadership of the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, commiserates with the families of the deceased, the entire students and the university community on these sad events, and prays the Lord console the families and the entire University community.
“The university management has beefed up security within and outside the campus to forestall recurrence.”
Ige directed that the First Semester University-wide GST and ENT CBT examinations for 2019/2020 academic session earlier scheduled for Monday, 9th March 2020 to Thursday, 12th March 2020 should be postponed till further notice.
“All students are enjoined to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without panic as the management, in conjunction with the security agencies, are on top of the situation.
“Students are, however, expected to resume for the continuation of the First Semester, 2019/2020 academic calendar on Monday, 22nd March 2020.”
