ExxonMobil has announced the promotion of Babatunde Olaniyo to Operations Supervisor for its Nigerian operations, a move aimed at bolstering the company’s operational effectiveness in Africa’s largest oil-producing nation. This strategic decision underscores the company’s continued focus on strengthening its presence in Nigeria, a key market in its global portfolio.
The promotion was officially confirmed on April 14, 2023, after an internal transition process that began following a March 2023 meeting with the company’s stakeholders. With over 15 years of experience in the energy sector, Olaniyo’s new role marks a significant milestone in his career within the multinational corporation, which he joined in December 2009.
Starting his tenure at ExxonMobil as an Operations Personnel, Olaniyo steadily advanced through the ranks, earning recognition for his expertise in operational management and commitment to facility integrity. His appointment as Facility Integrity Management Coordinator in September 2019 saw him take charge of critical infrastructure, ensuring that the company’s facilities were maintained and operated safely and efficiently.
In his new role, Olaniyo will oversee the startup and commissioning of offshore gas compression and Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) facilities. His responsibilities will also include driving operational excellence across ExxonMobil’s Nigerian operations, promptly addressing asset integrity concerns, and fostering a safety-driven work environment. Additionally, Olaniyo will manage contractor relationships, ensuring the company maintains strong ties with its partners and stakeholders.
ExxonMobil’s commitment to Nigeria continues to be a core part of its strategy as it expands its operations in the region. The promotion of Olaniyo highlights the company’s emphasis on nurturing local talent and leadership, which is key to fostering innovation and sustaining growth in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.
Nigeria has long been a cornerstone of ExxonMobil’s operations in Africa, and Olaniyo’s leadership will help further solidify the company’s role in the country’s energy industry. This promotion also reinforces ExxonMobil’s dedication to maintaining high standards of safety, operational integrity, and efficiency in its global operations, ensuring it remains a leader in the international energy market.
