In her efforts to curtail the spread of Tuberculosis disease in Sokoto State, not less than 13,486 residents of the state are currently undergoing treatment at different locations in the state.
The state programme manager on the fight against Tuberculosis, Dr Bello Umar Tambuwal, stated this while speaking with newsmen in Sokoto shortly after returning from Abuja where he emerged as the National Tuberculosis programme manager of the year by the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme in Nigeria.
The award is the second award to be received by the state following the best performing state in the country on the fight against Tuberculosis in 2019
The programme manager however confirmed that the 13,486 patients on the treatment table in the state include 12,405 adults and 1,081 children respectively.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the state Tuberculosis finding case jump from 6,052 in the year 2016 when Dr Tambuwal emerged as the state programme manager to 9,268 in the year 2020.
The state is also currently with a discovered case of 13,486 between the Q1 to Q3 of the year 2021, a situation which Dr Tambuwal described as house to house case search.
Meanwhile, Dr Tambuwal has described the award as a result of hardwork on the side of his team in getting this done.
He said the recognition will encourage him and the entire team to do more in bringing the case of Tuberculosis to the barest minimum in the state by continuing to create awareness about the disease.
He commends the efforts of the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Ali Muhammed Inname for supporting him and his team.
He also praised the efforts of the state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for making the health sector one of the major cardinal points of his administration.
He called on the general public to take advantage of the over four hundred centres in the state including the primary health centres to get themselves tested against the deadly but curable disease.
He further reminded residents of the state that both the test as well as the treatment for the disease is free of charge, hence there is no reason to be left aside by anyone.
He also enjoined the general public not to discriminate against anyone with Tuberculosis case in the state but rather embrace them and encourage such persons to urgently go for treatment at the various designated point in the state.
The events were witnessed by the wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, the Minister For Health, Dr Emmanuel Osagie Enahire.
