Two persons on Thursday lost their lives in separate auto accidents in the Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State.

Tribune Online gathered that the two persons, a male and a female were killed in the accident by trucks at the Post Office and Eyenkorin areas of the metropolis.

It was reported that an articulated vehicle known as a trailer crushed one Usman Salakani to death at the Post Office area at about 10:00 am, while the woman lost her life at Eyenkorin in the sunny afternoon.

The public relations officer of the state command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Babawale Afolabi, who confirmed the Post Office incident, said that the victim was trying to get money from the driver of the trailer.

“The incident occured at around 10:15 hours on Thursday. The victim, reported to also be a driver, was trying to collect money from the truck driver when his foot slipped off and was subsequently crushed to death by the rear tyre of the truck,” he said.

It was gathered that officers of the NSCDC Crisis Management department and Kwara State Transport Management Authority (KWATMA) later evacuated the remains of the victim from the scene of the accident.

Also, the state commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Jonathan Owoade, who confirmed the Eyenkorin incident, said that the irate mob that had gathered at the scene of the accident prevented law enforcement agents from performing their duties.

He said his men could not get to the scene of the incident as the mob threatened to set the truck ablaze.
