A passenger in a commercial bus and a motor boy died on Sunday in a fatal head-on collision at the Bare axis, near Guru Maharaj Camp, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, when a truck driver allegedly drove against traffic.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 8 p.m.

The vehicles involved were a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LSR 534 YJ and a black Bedford truck with registration number JJJ 828 XD.

Two other passengers sustained severe injuries in the crash.

According to information gathered by the Nigerian Tribune, the truck driver had already offloaded goods at a Chinese company along the expressway and was leaving the premises when he drove against traffic, resulting in a head-on collision with the bus, which was traveling from Osogbo, Osun State, to Lagos State.

The two fatalities were identified as a passenger who boarded the bus at Ibadan Toll Gate and the truck driver’s assistant.

The driver was reportedly apprehended and detained at the Toll Gate Police Station.

The Oyo FRSC Public Relations Officer, Chief Route Commander Mayowa Odewo, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased were taken to the mortuary at State Hospital, Adeoyo, Ring Road, Ibadan, while the injured were transported to Ibadan Central Hospital for urgent medical attention.

He advised drivers to refrain from driving against traffic.

The crashed vehicles have been placed in police custody at the Toll Gate Division, while other passengers with minor injuries reportedly left the scene to seek medical care.
