Following the judgment of the Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Abuja, the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has extended an olive branch to Asue Ighodalo and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He called on the opposition PDP and Ighodalo to join hands with him in the spirit of unity and work together for the progress of the state.

“It is time to put aside partisan differences and focus on the common goal of building a better future for our State” he said.

Okpebholo stated this in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Fred Itua, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Benin.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had on Sunday, September 22, 2024 declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of Edo State Governorship Election.

INEC held that Okpebholo pulled a total votes of 29, 667 against 247, 274 votes of the Candidate of PDP, Asue Ighodalo.

Not satisfied with INEC’s declaration, Ighodalo and his party headed to the Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the outcome of the poll.

Delivering judgement on the petition of Ighodalo and the PDP, Justice Wilfred Kpochi led 3-man panel, in a unanimous decision dismissed the petition for lack of merit.

Reacting to the judgment, Okpebholo said the court affirmation was a victory for the people of Edo.

“This victory is not mine alone, but a victory for every citizen and residents of Edo State.

“It is a mandate to continue the work we have started, to build a state where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

“This decision validates the overwhelming support demonstrated by the citizens and residents of Edo State during the election.

“It reaffirms the integrity of our democratic process and stands as a testament to the will of the people,” Okpebholo said.

He expressed gratitude to the Tribunal for it diligence and fairness in handling the petition, just as Okpebholo also extended his appreciation to the people of Edo State for their unwavering support and belief in his vision for a prosperous and united state.

“We remain committed to our promise of good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.

“The administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo remains focused on delivering on its campaign promises and will not be distracted by frivolous litigation.

“The administration is committed to serving the people of Edo State with dedication and integrity,” the statement read.
