A passenger train plying the Itakpe-Warri railway has crushed a mother and her daughter to death in Orhuwhorun community, Udu Local Government Area of Delta state.
The incident occurred on Thursday at about 3:40 p.m at Aragba area of the community.
The train was said to be headed for the Ujevwu Train Station in Udu and scheduled to return to Itakpe in Kogi State on Thursday evening.
Reports said the woman, who was hawking moi-moi, was walking with her daughter on the rail tracks when the train crushed them.
It was also gathered that on hearing the sound of the train, the daughter tried to get her mother out of the tracks, but was knocked down alongside the mother.
The train reportedly ran over the mother while the daughter was knocked off the rail tracks while attempting to rescue her mom.
A source at the train station disclosed that the train was yet to return as youths of the area had allegedly mobilised to the spot of the accident.
Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, is yet to respond to the incident as of the time of filing the report.
