The Kano police command has confirmed that five people lost their lives, while 39 others sustained injuries after a trailer lost control on the popular Muhammadu Buhari bridge in Kano State.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Haruna Kiyawa, said the accident occurred on Thursday night.
On the spot of the accident, four people were killed, while another lost his life in the early hours of today.
He added that those who sustained injuries have been taken to hospital for treatment.
He also stated that the accident, which claimed five lives, was a result of the driver’s high speed.
According to him, the trailer was on its way from Takai town to Lagos and was carrying a large number of goats.
SP Kiyawa, however, disclosed that the driver of the trailer has been arrested while an investigation is ongoing.

It was reported that at least more than twenty people were involved; some have lost their lives, while others have sustained serious injuries.
An eyewitness stated that the trailer was said to be heading for the southern part of the country when the incident occurred on Thursday night.
However, the source hinted that the trailer overturned, carrying both people and goats.
