The sleepy community of Onicha Uku in Aniocha north council of Delta state came alive weekend when 1800 bags of rice were distributed to households courtesy of Mr Tony Elumelu0, a philanthropist and Founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation.
The gesture of love in his personal capacity as “a village boy”, is a way of ensuring that families in his community enjoy the festive season with dignity and happiness.
Representatives from traditional royal council , different quarters, community leaders, Christian association of Nigeria, college of Nursing, youth groups amongst others had gathered in his residence where the distribution was done orderly without any stampede.
Addressing the guests including the elderly, representative of the philanthropist and icon of excellence Nasir Ramon, Head, Media and External Relations, UBA assisted by Mr Omede Odikina announced that more bags of the commodity are being expected in the community.
The representative described Tony Elumelu as a son of the soil who has remained steadfast in his commitment to empowering communities and changing lives.
“Todays episode we gather to celebrate the spirit of Christmas—a season of love, kindness, and generosity. This event is a testament to the deep commitment of Tony Elumelu to his roots, his people, and his vision for a better and brighter future for all.
“He has not only made an indelible mark on the global stage but continues to impact lives right here in his hometown.”

Mr Ramon admonished all to reflect on this act of kindness, reminding that giving back, no matter how small, makes the world a better place.
“As we receive these gifts today, let us also commit to being a blessing to others in whatever way we can., he advised.
Some of the recipients of the package including the Ede of Onicha Uku, Chief Steve Osakwe of the traditional council, Provost College of nursing, Mrs Ngozi Olise expressed gratitude for the gesture.
They reflected on the immense contributions of the renowned banker towards the development of Onicha Uku and other communities in the area, Nigeria , African and world at large.
