The Nigerian Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, Warri South-West, Delta State, is set to confer on former militant, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo and the Amanyanabo of Twon Brass Kingdom in Bayelsa, HRM, Alfred Papapreye Diette-Spiff for their contributions to the growth and development of the institution.
The conferments will hold at NMU’s first convocation ceremony on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 10:00a.m at the campus in Okerenkoko.
Secretary, Tompolo Foundation, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, in a chat with journalists, congratulated Tompolo and the traditional ruler, who doubles as the Chairman of Traditional Rulers of Oil Minerals Producing Communities ahead of the event.
He said the award was a call on Tompolo and the Traditional ruler, who was the first military governor of Rivers State, to do more for the university.
“Tompolo will continue to do more for the Nigerian Maritime University. He likes education and does not play with it.
“He encourages youths to enroll in the school. He provides them with scholarships to succeed in their educational pursuit.
“He has been contributing in no small measure to NMU in terms of providing infrastructure, endowment funds and so on. He will continue to do more for the institution,” Bebenimibo noted.
It was gathered that dignitaries from all walks of life would be at the maiden convocation ceremony of the first and only maritime University in the country and Sub-Saharan Africa.
