The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 presidential election, Prince Adewale Adebayo, has described President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Brazil as a waste of Nigeria’s scarce resources.
He criticised the President for travelling to Brazil in search of what is already contained in the SDP manifesto.
However, he expressed hope that the visit would help the President realise how misguided his economic policies are.
Adebayo noted that the President’s visit was comparable to “Saul becoming Paul,” because what Brazil has, which Nigeria lacks, is good leadership.
“What they have is a poverty-reduction manifesto with clear programmes and policies. If you look at Bolsa Familia, which reduced poverty by 27 percent in Brazil in four years under President Lula da Silva’s government, it is the opposite of ‘subsidy is gone,’ which has exponentially increased poverty in Nigeria.

“If you compare the way Petrobras is managed with how President Tinubu has been running the NNPC, they are polar opposites.
“So, the economic policies of President Tinubu are the exact opposite of those that have succeeded in Brazil.
“I’m happy he went there, because by going, he will see how misguided his own policies are.
“On the other hand, I’m not happy that he spent all that money when the solution is right here. He could have spoken to me. He could have looked at the Social Democratic Party’s manifesto. He used to be a member of the SDP in the good old days.
“So why abandon the Brazilian-style manifesto, which is already available in Nigeria, only to go to Brazil as a tourist, awed by the majesty of its economy as if it were magic? It is not magic—it is policy,” he stated.
