The member representing Ido/Osi, Moba, and Ilejemeje Federal Constituency of Ekiti State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Kolawole Davidson Akinlayo, has firmly addressed concerns about marginalisation raised by some individuals over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s distribution of appointments among the six geopolitical zones in the country, stating that all the zones were fairly represented.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, the federal lawmaker, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), pointed out that those complaining were merely individuals who had not personally benefited from the new political arrangements that had included all groups across the country.
According to him, “I think the President has demonstrated equity across all regions—North or South—when it comes to appointments. If you look at the numbers, the North still has the highest share. Those crying foul are simply those who have been left out of the current arrangement.”
He, however, expressed total confidence that President Tinubu would secure a second victory in 2027 based on his leadership role in reviewing the nation’s economy and addressing insecurity in the country.
According to him, “Be that as it may, I am strongly convinced that the President will return in 2027. Nigeria is coming back to life again, and we want continuity.”
The federal lawmaker also declared that the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, would be re-elected unopposed in 2026 due to his excellent performance, which had tremendously transformed the state into a role model.
Speaking on the rising insecurity in the country, Akinlayo urged the federal government to adopt technology and a balanced “carrot and stick” approach in tackling the menace, which is becoming an international embarrassment.
According to him, “The methods we are currently using have not worked well. I would advise the government to invest more in technology. With the right tools, we can monitor and deploy drones to places like the Sambisa forest and beyond. We cannot continue this way—too many lives are being lost and families displaced. Technology is the best approach to solving the insecurity challenge.”
Akinlayo also opposed a recent proposal by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which seeks to allow political parties to nominate replacements for legislators who die or resign.
He cautioned that such a move could trigger internal party conflicts if allowed.
According to him, “Allowing party leaders to handpick replacements without consulting the people would only breed rancour. It undermines internal democracy and the will of the electorate.”
