Tinubu seeks Reps confirmation of new NDDC board

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested for the House of Representatives support for the confirmation of the newly appointed Chairman and Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

This was in compliance with the provisions of Section 2(2) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (Establishment etc.) Act.

President Tinubu in the communication read by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Kalu expressed optimism that the House will find the candidates worthy of confirmation.

“In compliance with the provisions of section 2(2) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (Establishment etc.) Act, I am pleased to present the underlisted seventeen (17) nominees for the consideration of the House of Representatives for the positions of Chairman and members of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.”

The names for confirmation are: Mr. Chiedu Ebie (Chairman) Delta State; Dr. Samuel Ogbuku (Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer) Bayelsa; Mr. Boma lyaye ED (Finance and Admin) Rivers; Mr. Victor Antai Executive Director (Projects) Akwa-Ibom; Hon. Otito Atikase ED(Corporate Services) Ondo; Senator Dimaro Denyanbofa, State Representative Bayelsa; and Mr. Abasi Ndikan Nkono, State Representative Akwa-lbom.

Others include: Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, State Representative Delta; Chief Tony Okocha, State Representative Rivers; Hon. Patrick Aisowieren, State Representative Edo; Mr. Kyrian C. Uchegbu, State Representative Imo; Hon. Victor Kolade Akinjo, State Representative Ondo; Chief Dimgba Eruba, State Representative Abia; Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke, State Representative Cross River; Hon. Nick Wende, Zonal Representative North Central; Hon. Namdas Abdulrazak, Zonal Representative North East; and Senator Dr.Ibrahim Abdullahi Gobir, Zonal Representative North West.

In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker praised Mr. President for keeping to the letter of the law for bringing the names of the Nominees for confirmation before the Senate in conjunction with the House of Representatives.

He expressed optimism that the constitution of the leadership of the NDDC will ensure good governance and assured that the Legislature will do all within its legislative jurisdiction to ensure the NDDC functions for the good of Nigerians, especially those living in the Niger Delta region.

He assured that an Ad-hoc Committee will in effect be set up to join the confirmation Committee of the Senate for the exercise.

The membership of the Ad-hoc Committee was announced and is to be chaired by Hon. Ibori Erhiatake.

The Committee is billed to sit for the confirmation exercise on Thursday, 12th October, 2023 and brief the House on Tuesday, 17th October, 2023.
