President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in Strategic Management, among other academic and professional qualifications.
The President also nominated two commissioners to join the NERC leadership: Mr. Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner of Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner of Finance and Management Services.
All nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate.
To ensure continuity and avoid a leadership vacuum at the regulatory agency, President Tinubu directed Engr. Ramat to assume office in an acting capacity pending Senate approval, in accordance with legal provisions.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President urged the appointees to bring their expertise and commitment to bear in driving reforms and improvements in Nigeria’s power sector.
