The Speaker of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, Hadja Memounatou Ibrahima, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a beacon of inspiration for the entire subregion.
Ibrahima gave this commendation while speaking at the Parliament’s extraordinary session in Lagos, expressing her gratitude to President Tinubu and Nigerians “for their constant support to the Community’s institutions.”
She explained that the session would focus primarily on the administration and adoption of the report from the Lomé session, which proposed amendments to the rules of procedure for the 6th Legislature’s parliamentary activities in 2025.
Ibrahima emphasized the importance of bolstering cooperation, unity, and regional integration. She highlighted several cross-border infrastructure projects that have significantly improved connectivity within the region, including road networks, railway systems, and energy projects.

“I would like to fulfill a pleasant duty—that of expressing gratitude on behalf of all members of the House of Common Parliament to His Excellency, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Chairman of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, as well as to all Nigerians, for their constant support to the Community’s institutions.
“We have gathered here in Lagos to carry out a statutory activity as recommended by Article 27/2 of the Supplementary Act on the strengthening of the prerogatives of the ECOWAS Parliament,” said Ibrahima.
“These projects serve as tangible examples of efforts to enhance the daily lives of citizens across West Africa.
“Our work here will equip ECOWAS with the necessary resources to strengthen cooperation, promote peace and stability, and drive future integration, transforming the West African region into a zone of prosperity and solidarity,” she added.
The Speaker also extended her appreciation to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for providing the facilities that ensured the smooth organisation of the extraordinary session.
She described Lagos as a vibrant metropolitan hub that symbolizes Africa’s diversity, where tradition and modernity blend seamlessly.
In his keynote address, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the dual anniversaries of ECOWAS as a testament to the vision, resilience, and collective will of West African nations to build a united, prosperous, and peaceful region.
