Tinubu committed to food security — Agric minister, Deputy Senate president

Deputy Senate President, Senator Jubril Barau, has stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration is aimed at providing food for all through improved agricultural practices.

Speaking at an agriculture and human capital development empowerment programme, organised by the Senator representing Kwara Central, Salihu Mustapha, in Ilorin on Friday, Barau emphasised that agriculture and human capital development are key areas for national development.

“Of course, there is no need to waste much time talking about the importance of agriculture to every society. Agriculture is the sine qua non for the survival of any society. It is the foundation of any society because, without food, there is no life.

“No wonder the Senate decided to pick Mustapha as its Agriculture Committee Chair. He is an outstanding person and a party leader who knows how to go about it.”

He also commended the sponsor for focusing on human capital development, stating that it is what drives the economy of every developed society. “It is what is in vogue all over the world and is at the heart of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the president.

“Forget it if you don’t have an arrangement that will enhance human capital development. You need to have skilled people who will drive your development.”

The Deputy Senate President, who praised Senator Mustapha for putting smiles on the faces of his constituents, also donated 200 sewing machines to support the programme.

No fewer than 2,500 people benefited from the empowerment programme.

Also speaking, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said that the ongoing reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu on food security are yielding results.

The Minister stated, “We have seen that food is not only available, but the prices are gradually becoming affordable.

“That is to show that the president is working in the best interest of all Nigerians. I would commend my partners in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for doing well and aligning with the aspirations of the president.

“I also applaud my able Chairman, Senator Mustapha, who is overseeing me. He has helped put all of us on our toes to align with the president’s aspirations.”

In his remarks, Senator Mustapha said the project aligned with President Tinubu’s agenda, adding, “We took time to train people interested in maintaining, repairing, and restoring solar panels.”

Items distributed included 250 deep freezers, over 400 irrigation machines, vehicles for each of the four local government areas in the senatorial district, 450 grinding machines, eight tractors, convertible tricycles, cows, and more.

“We are doing this programme to support the state government in its quest to improve the lives of Kwarans,” he said.

Also speaking, the National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bashir Ajibola, urged the constituents to reciprocate the gesture by voting massively for all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

“I enjoin you all to support President Tinubu and Senator Mustapha in the next general elections with your votes. I repeat, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027,” he said.
