Tragedy struck in the Issele-Azagba community in the Aniocha north local government area of Delta State on Tuesday as two persons were struck dead following a thunder strike during a torrential rainfall.
One of the victims is a Point of Service (POS) operator who is also the father of a year-old baby girl.
The third victim of the thunder strike, simply identified as Sunday, whose condition was critical, is said to have been admitted to a hospital in Asaba.
Nigerian Tribune reports that as the youths numbering about 13 were playing the game at Osemeke Primary School field in the community at about 2pm, there was lightning and heavy thunder which struck the footballers and their referee, killing two instantly.

Meanwhile, the state police command said on Wednesday that the incident was not reported at any police station.
According to state police public relations officer SP Bright Edafe,” the matter was not reported in the station, so I can’t confirm the story or the number of deaths in the said thunder strike.”
