Three headless bodies found in Ondo river

The remains of three headless bodies were on Tuesday discovered in a river in Odigbo community of Odigbo local government area of Ondo by the residents of the community.

The three bodies were found floating on the river by the locals who visited the river and noticed the decomposing bodies at the river bank.

An eyewitness explained that the headless bodies of the deceased indicated that they were brutally murdered by some people who dumped their remains in the river.

A youth leader, who identified himself as Sileola, expressed shock over the strange discovery, said “I was shocked when I first heard about it over the phone. I rushed to the scene, hoping to identify the victims through their clothing or any other means, but all efforts proved abortive,”

According to him, the victims might have been killed somewhere else by the perpetrators who dumped their lifeless and headless bodies in the community river.

He however, said there was no case of missing person in the community, and said the incident was reported to the security agencies in the area, urging the residents to report any strange movement in the community.

However, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Olayinka Ayanlade, who confirmed the incident said investigation has commenced on the matter.

He said; “I can confirm to you that some three bodies were recovered at the river in Odigbo and the incident was immediately reported at the Ore Division.

“The DPO of the division moved detectives to the scene where the three bodies were recovered and taken to the morgue at General Hospital

The community leaders and all interest groups have been invited to ensure the identification of the body and also directing that anybody that has information to the body to visit the morgue for identification.

“But ever since then we have not received any report and nobody has been able to identify any of the bodies.

“We believed that those bodies were brought there and dumped at that site by some unknown men. So we want to believe that the killing did not actually happen in the area.

“The area was a border town between Ogun and Edo States. So we believe the body is not from these states, but it was dumped in that river, perhaps for the river to sweep the bodies away”
