Did you know your lips are very delicate and can absorb ingredients?
This is why you should always be concerned about harmful lipstick or the chemical compositions of the products you use. These chemicals are unhealthy and can trigger sickness.
Here are the harmful chemicals in lipstick that can damage your lips:
1. Parabens
Parabens are preservatives used to prevent harmful bacteria from growing in lipsticks. But parabens can actually affect your hormones and cause dermatitis. Preservatives made with honey or clay are better. You can also look out for lipsticks labelled “Paraben-free” or “Non-GMO formula” and avoid the ones with “Butylparaben” or “Methylparaben.”

2. Petroleum
Petroleum, known as a “carcinogen,” can increase your risk of cancer if you keep using products that contain it. Including synthetic dyes derived from it would store in your organs and tissues. This ingredient harbours bacteria and can lead to irritation and dryness of the lips.
3. Synthetic fragrance
Synthetic fragrance combined with chemicals is not healthy, especially for those who have sensitive skin. It may result in redness and dryness of the lips. Natural scented makeup is better because our lips are prone to irritation and premature ageing.
4. Lead
This is a neurotoxin used in harmful lipstick. It accumulates in the body and can cause serious damage, especially to pregnant women. It is a contaminant that is fondly added to makeup ingredients.
5. Aluminium
This is highly utilised in a non-organic beauty brand as a thickening substance. Aluminium is a harmful heavy metal that can build up in your body, and getting rid of it is not easy. As an immune disruptor, it can cause cancer.
6. Phthalate
Phthalate is another toxic ingredient found in harmful lipstick. Its essence is “stickiness” to the lips. In other words, it is a chemical that makes lipsticks adhere to the lips. It can damage your liver, lungs, and kidneys if used over time. They can affect hormonal function as well.
