Serving British Prime Minister, Theresa May made history as she paid a visit to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Jesus House, London on Sunday where she spoke on freedom of speech, religion and the need for peaceful coexistence regardless of race.
Hosted by the Parish Pastor, Agu Irukwu, the prime minister told members of the church that “One of the things I think we can all do in terms of faith is to give very clear signs of our faith and be prepared to talk about it so that people can see that that freedom exists and also so there will be roles models for people to look to and to follow.”
UK’s number one citizen highlighted the purpose of political leadership as being an opportunity to serve when she said, “I would hope you would have some young people here in your church who will see being an MP as something they can do to give back to society and to work actively to improve the lives of others.”
Referring to the recent attack on Coptic Egyptians in Egypt, Mrs May said it was important for her government to ensure that its diplomatic representation via the Foreign Office, embassies and high commissions promote the ideas of freedom and belief.
“We should do the same in terms of encouraging freedom of belief and challenging where we see that persecution happening.”
Pastor Irukwu appreciated the visit of the prime minister and presented her with a special edition Bible and a message from the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. A Adeboye.
“We are very humbled that the Prime Minister took time from her busy schedule to come and worship with us here at Jesus House and take heart that she was inspired by the work we do here particularly amongst the community,” he said.
