The creation of Nigeria by the British imperial colonial masters was founded on faulty and deceptive base. Nigeria as it is today is either a state or country but definitely not a nation because the society is heterogeneous and not homogenous.
There is no common origin, language or culture, hence describing Nigeria as a nation is politically deceptive and illogical. Because of this official unfaithfulness, Nigeria continues to grope from one chaos to another over the years without solutions.
Unfortunately, the elite political rulers exploit poor, helpless Nigerian masses endlessly. It is glaring that the 1914 amalgamation is a marriage of incompatible couples. The union is favourable to only the husband, that is, the one that possesses the weapon of oppression and intimidation.
A state that orchestrates three major languages in national newscasts or ceremonial gatherings is just covering up. It is unfortunate that the apostles of a Nigeria nation do not see anything wrong in dichotomy in university, federal revenue allocations and political appointment policies.
Surprisingly, the executors of the ungodly policies believe in one religion or the other which divinely proclaims fairness. The favoured partners in the unholy marriage get jittery whenever the cowed spouses manage to speak out on the needful change in the name of restructuring or true federalism.
God in heaven will be wondering why human beings should hold others hostage whereas their land produces the live wire of the entire state-crude oil and VAT. It is wicked; it is unimaginable that in the same country a most populous part suddenly lost that status to another portion which was divided into two to its southern colleague in population.
This brazen injustice is only possible in a clime where equity is obsolete. Emerging disturbing scenario plays out from one government to another. Some years ago, a myopic government brazenly moved-operations of the Nigeria Ports Authority to Abuja. Fortunately, when a more reasonable administration took over, NPA was relocated to Lagos. The maritime world mocked our collective image for taking a ship to the desert.
Surprisingly, another power-that-be repeated same folly by establishing a naval training base in Kaduna, oblivious of inavailability of water needed for practical training. Right now, more than 70 per cent of military formations are located in the politically advantaged portion of Nigeria.
Why is this misuse of power? Where is equity, where is fairness and justice as enshrined in the constitution and national anthem?
It is puzzling that a band of killers should be treated as a special bride and pampered by the powers-that-be. The large scale fish, cocoa and poultry farmers in Nigeria should also be treated with same sense of belonging by the powers-that-be as done to the rampaging herdsmen.
With the above sign posts, it is hoped that the conscience of the oligarchic rulers shall be pricked even as they gather in their worship centres so as to avoid God’s wrath.
For a country to evolve into a nation, there must be cohesion, equity and justice or peaceful plebiscite for continued co-existence.
