To make our lives count we need to understand life is not an event but a process. A process is a series of activities or events done deliberately to achieve certain results. Life doesn’t just happen. We must engage in certain processes to get certain results and this is where habits come in.
Habits are patterns of behaviors acquired through frequent repetition.
“You can easily develop a habit if you so wish to do so and that habit can be formed by something you do over and over again until it becomes second nature.” Catherine Pulsifer
When we engage in certain activities repeatedly we get “hooked” and we keep doing it “naturally”.
“Good habits can be developed through repetition. By incorporating behaviors, task and attitude to the regular routines, they usually become a habit, thus becoming natural and virtually effortless.” Kellie Sullivan
We are all creatures of habit.
“Every grown-up man consists wholly of habits, although he is often unaware of it and even denies having any habits at all.” Georges Gurdjie
We make our habits and our habits make us. Habits are very powerful. “Habits are at first cobwebs, then cables.” Spanish Proverb
“The chains of habit are generally too small to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.” Samuel Johnson
Understanding the power of habit will help us to deliberately build our lives in the desired direction that we want. It will help us to build our future consciously.
Forming good habits that will make our lives to count will demand preparation as life does not just happen.
“Doing a little bit every day has a greater impact than doing a lot on one day. How much greater? Profoundly so, because a little bit every day is enough to grow into a lifelong foundational habit, and those are a big deal, as you’ll see.” Stephen Guise
Good habits can become tools to help us get prepared for the life we desire.
“You cannot expect to attain success if you are not prepared. Life has a habit of giving back rewards in proportion to the effort we expend.” Catherine Pulsifer
Habits can be negative or positive. We must endeavor and do all we can to imbibe, nurture and operate good habits.
Bad habits are easier to develop than good ones so we need to be very careful what we engage in with our time. The pitiable part of habits is that it’s easier to form bad habits and it’s tougher to discard them.”Bad habit never disappears miraculously. It’s an undo-it-yourself project.” Abigail Van Buren
“The unfortunate thing about this world is that good habits are so much easier to give up than bad ones.” Somerset Maugham
Forming good habits must be done consciously. We must decide what habits are needed to help us have a lifestyle that will facilitate the successful execution of our dreams. We must do repeatedly the things needed to create the future that we desire and do away with the things that can jeopardize it.
