Chairman, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), in Oyo State, Mr K. O. Babajide has lamented that schools, school heads and teachers continue to bear the brunt of dealing with children with poor parental upbringing.
Speaking on Thursday at the maiden Inter secondary schools quiz competition organised by DAKA Foundation, in Ibadan, Babajide bemoaned that schools management were, on a daily basis, grappling with so much indiscipline and hooliganism from their students.
Babajide fingered parents for their failure to take hold of and monitor their children, their studies and lifestyle in their pursuit of daily bread.
To stem the tide of hooliganism and indiscipline among pupils, students, Babajide enjoined parents to pay more attention to the education and affairs of their children or wards rather than pushing their parental responsibilities to teachers and school heads.
Speaking, Chief Executive Officer/Founder, DAKA Foundation, Dr Adesina Abidikugu stressed that parents, teachers, school heads, government, individuals and others must commit to the education sector in interest of having a formidable society.
He demanded focus of all stakeholders on health, education and poverty alleviation for a better society.
Adesina noted that the foundation was driven by the need to assist the needy and indigent to attain a better life worthy of emulation.
He, especially, lauded the commitment of the state government to increasing enrolment in schools, while calling on individuals and groups to collaborate with the state government to enhance the state’s education sector.
The event saw the DAKA Foundation award bursary, cash prizes, laptops, tablets, android phones to students and schools.
Baptist secondary school, Oke-Ado, Ibadan with Adegbola Tomiwa and Oladapo Peace as representatives won the inter secondary school quiz competition while Ibadan Grammar School, Molete, emerged the first runner-up.
In her remarks, Permanent Secretary, Oyo Ministry of Education, Mrs A. B. Atere prayed that more individuals and groups complement efforts of the state government in enhancing the education sector.
Members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Zonal Inspector of Education, Local Inspector of Education, principals, teachers, students and other stakeholders in the education sector were present at the event.
