The 2025 budget appropriation for Taraba State on Friday stood at ₦574.8 billion, following the signing of a ₦143.3 billion supplementary appropriation law by Governor Agbu Kefas.
Tribune Online reports that the governor also signed a virement of ₦14.68 billion, recently approved by the State House of Assembly.
Tribune recalls that Governor Kefas had earlier, in September 2024, presented a total sum of ₦429.8 billion as the budget appropriation for the state.
Meanwhile, the governor explained during the exercise in Jalingo that the supplementary budget is aimed at addressing urgent funding needs in critical sectors of development, including security, infrastructure, and the economy, as well as cushioning the impact of inflation and exchange rate pressures on ongoing projects in the state.
He stated that the implementation of the 2025 supplementary budget will be extended to 31st May 2026, with capital expenditure accounting for 68.9% and recurrent spending for 31.1%.
The Taraba State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation had earlier said the additional funding will enable the state government to respond to emerging economic and security challenges, realign spending with the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), and accelerate strategic developmental projects.
The Committee urged the government to ensure transparency, accountability, and timely release of funds to achieve the intended results of the supplementary budget.
