A petroleum tanker explosion under the Karu Bridge on the Abuja-Keffi expressway brought traffic to a standstill on Wednesday evening, cutting off movement on the busy route.
The explosion occurred during rush hour as commuters were returning from work and other activities.
The initial blast was followed by multiple secondary explosions, triggering panic among road users.

The incident completely blocked access into Abuja for those coming from the Keffi axis, while commuters on the opposite side faced prolonged delays as they struggled to navigate past the scene.
Firefighters were seen making efforts to reach the burning tanker and contain the inferno.
There have been unconfirmed reports of casualties, with fears of injuries and possible fatalities.
As of 8:15 p.m., traffic remained gridlocked in both directions, leaving thousands of commuters stranded.
