Taking break from music for education wasn’t difficult decision — Duncan Mighty

Duncan Mighty, a renowned Nigerian musician, reveals that his decision to take a break from music in pursuit of education was not a difficult one.

In a candid interview with 3Music TV in Accra, Ghana, Duncan Mighty shared that he already holds a Master of Science degree in Acoustics from Freiburg University, Germany.

The ‘Port Harcourt First Son’ crooner also asserted that he is not just relying on his musical talents, as he has set his sights on acquiring a Doctorate of Philosophy degree, PhD.

According to Duncan Mighty, his decision to pursue further education was motivated by the belief that education is a lifelong asset.

He recounted his experience studying at an international institution where he had to undergo Dutch language courses before gaining admission.

Encouraging his colleagues in the music industry to follow suit, Duncan Mighty stressed the importance of education in safeguarding one’s career and assets.

He cautioned against relying solely on talent and pointed out the competitive nature of the recording business.

“Taking a break from music wasn’t a difficult decision. Most importantly, you must be able to equip yourself. You must be in charge of your career or business. For me, talent is not enough, music is not enough.

“I have to back it up with education. Studying in an international community like Freiburg University… It is not an English-speaking university. You had to do Dutch language courses for six months, then you would be admitted to school.

“But I give God praise. I think education is the only thing that remains with you, even in old age. So if you cannot go to school when your parents could send, you should go when you can.

That was why I took a break from music. I’m not done with education yet. I must have a PhD.”

“If you’re not educated, someone is out there waiting to use everything you have made. Be careful, it is not about singing today. It’s called the recording business,” he said during the interview.
