Suswam and I have resolved our problems —Ortom

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom

GOVERNOR Samuel Ortom has said chiefs and elders in their respective areas; Minda and Sankera, have resolved his issues with former Governor Gabriel Suswam.

The two leaders had constantly attacked each other over the financial problem of the state and particularly who controls political space of the state.

The governor stated this at a stakeholders’ meeting organised to address the incessant Fulani clashes in the state, on Monday.

Ortom averred that the decision to allow ceasefire followed a peace meeting called by the elders and  chiefs of Minda and Sankera to mediate in the matter.

According to him, “I want to let you know that Suswam and I have agreed to cease fire after the elders and Ters (chiefs) from Minda and Sankera called us together to mediate in the matter between us.

“This matter wouldn’t have taken long if Suswam had cooperated with me. Suswam’s hands had been up against me, that is why I have continued to bite.”

The governor, who noted that he had no more issues with the former governor, said his predecessor had to travel abroad shortly after the peace meeting for medical attention, while assuring that both of them hoped to sit and resolve their differences.
