VIOLENCE erupted at the Kabba township stadium, venue of the 2017 Kabba Day celebration as suspected thugs attacked the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye, with dangerous weapons.
The senator, who narrowly escaped from the scene was attacked by the surging mob that threw objects like stone, sachet water, and substances believed to be charm.
The development however prevented the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, from attending the event as security report was said not be favourable.
The governor, who was already in Kabba for the programme, could not attend as his advance team had to leave.
Kabba is the headquarters of Kogi west senatorial district that Melaye is representing in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
Trouble started when the lawmaker was called upon to present his speech and donation before the arrival of the governor to the venue.
After delivering his speech along with a cash donation of N3 million, Melaye attempted to leave the venue but was immediately attacked by the suspected hoodlums.
As he made towards his vehicle, the suspected thugs rushed towards him and threw stones and other dangerous objects at him.
The senator however escaped with the aid of the security men attached to him, while the security operatives on ground used teargas canister to disperse the crowd and also arrested some of the hoodlums.
It was however gathered that the governor deliberately avoided the venue of the ceremony in order to ensure that law and order are maintained.
Bello, who later spoke through the director general, media and publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, donated N20 million towards the development of the community.
