Suspected ritualist Muhammad Adekunle has been arrested for allegedly conspiring with others to kill and sell the human parts of Malik Kareem to a trader at the popular Oje Market in Ibadan North East Local Government Area for N70,000.

The suspect is also accused of committing a similar crime involving the murder of Adekola Sodiq and selling his body parts to Obaleye Sanmi and Ismail Olalekan. Sodiq was gruesomely murdered at Olorisaoko Village in Akinyele Local Government Area last week.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi, paraded the suspects before the media at the State Police Command, Eleyele Ibadan, on Friday.

Sonubi described the suspects as serial killers and revealed that in January 2024, Adekunle, in collaboration with Lukman, Olobe, and Ifa (all now at large), lured Adekola Sodiq to Moniya, where they severed his head and legs and sold them to Obaleye Sanmi and Ismail Olalekan.

Sonubi also stated that on August 7, 2024, Adekunle and his accomplices, now at large, stabbed Malik Kareem to death and sold his head and legs to Rashidat Akanji at Oje Market for N70,000.

Reports gathered that on August 11, 2024, at around 6:30 a.m, a search warrant was executed at the suspects’ homes, where fresh flesh was recovered. Adekunle confessed that the flesh was from Malik Kareem, whom they killed on August 7, 2024.

During the investigation, suspects Muniru Salawudeen, Rashidat Akanji, Ismail Olalekan, and Obaleye Sanmi were arrested. They confessed to purchasing various human parts from Adekunle Mohammed for money rituals.

On August 10, 2024, at about 12:15 a.m, one Ayede reported that a foul odor was emanating from a building owned by Muhammad Adekunle, who was not residing there but visited at odd hours.

Police from Moniya Divisional Headquarters investigated and found a dry well in the compound containing what appeared to be mutilated human bodies.

The remains of three unidentified bodies were removed and taken to the State Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy. Photographs were also taken.

In another case, the police arrested Muyideen Raimi for exhuming and decapitating his late cousin, Sulaiman Aromokun, from Aromokun’s compound in Isale Ijebu, Ibadan.

Raimi confessed to the crime and mentioned Sumaila a.k.a Baba Ibeji, now at large, as his accomplice. Raimi stated that their intention was to use the skull for money rituals.

Commissioner Sonubi assured that the police will continue their efforts to make the state inhospitable for crime and criminality.
